Stand-up and improv comedy coast to coast at half price

If you love a good laugh, nothing beats stand-up comedy at its best. When they’re not on Comedy Central or late night talk shows, the funniest comedians are honing their skills – that is, reducing audiences to hysteria – on the comedy circuit. Improv Comedy at the Basement Theatre (The Basement Theatre, 175 West Wieuca Rd NE, Atlanta) Friday nights at 8 pm you can watch Chicago-style long-form comedy improve. Saturdays nights bring “Down in the Basement” (8 pm) with two shows, two distinct improv styles, and “Improv Blender” (10 pm) a mix of improv styles all based on audience suggestions.

Baltimore Comedy Factory (Power Plant Live Complex, 6 Market Place, Baltimore) hosts nationally-known stand-up comics seen on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, BET, and the Tonight Show. In July: Trevor Noah, Mickey Cucchiella, and Josh Wolf (Last Comic Standing, My Name is Earl, E!). In August: Deon Cole (Tonight Show, Laffapalooza, Def Comedy Jam) and Ian Bagg (Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno).

Improv Asylum (216 Hanover St. Boston, MA 02113) presents Nostalg-sick on Thursday nights. A troupe of actors and a musician improvise sketches based on audience suggestions, creating an unpredictable and often hilarious live performance.
